The Book of Exodus, Chapter 31

This chapter is about Bezalel & Oholiab & the Sabbath. Bezalel & Oholiab are in charge to make all fabulous things that we’ve already discussed. Like Ark of the Covenant, the table, the basin, etc. You can see this in Exodus 35:30 & Exodus 36:1-7. Also talking about the Sabbath. Enjoy the read!

God told Moses that God has chose Bezalel (who was the son of Uri & the grandson of Hur. Hur has been mentioned a few times.), from the tribe of Judah. Bezalel was filled with the “Spirit of God” (I wonder if this a precursor to the Holy Spirit.). Bezalel also had, from God, skill, ability, & knowledge in all kinds of crafty things. He could make artistic designs in gold, silver, & bronze. (God is just generous to this guy because it keeps going.) He (Bezalel) also could cut & set stones, work in wood, & engaged in all kinds of craftsmanship.

God also told Moses that Oholiah (who was the son of Ahisamach), of the tribe of Dan to help Bezalel. God also gave all the skills neccessary to all the craftsmen to make all these items: The sanctuary structure, the Ark of the Covenant with the cover for it, & all the furnishings for the tent (the table & its accessories, the “pure gold” lamp stand (God always wants you to about the gold. But I’ve always wondered why.) & all its accessories, the altar of incense, the altar of burnt offering & its utensils, the basin & stand. They also weaved the garments for Aaron & his sons, plus they also made the anointing oil & fragrant incense for the Holy of Holies.

Moses was told by God to tell the Israelites that they must observe the Sabbath, because it’s holy to them. God also says that anyone who “desecrates” it must get the death penalty & if someone works on the Sabbath must be excommunicated.  But in the next verse, it says that if someone works on the Sabbath must get the death penalty.

When God was done talking to God on Mount Sinai, God gave Moses the 2 tablets “of the Testimony.” These were tablets of stone inscribed by the finger of God.
