The Gospel of Philip, Part 5

This section is going to be a lot longer than the other parts. I realize that the first 4 parts were really short. I apologize about that. We’ll see where this goes. Enjoy friends!

Jesus is a Hidden Name

Jesus is a hidden name, Christ is a reveled name. The name Jesus doesn’t exist in any other language, but he’s called by the name Jesus.

The word for Christ in Syriac is ‘messias’ & in Greek is ‘christos,’ & likewise all other people have a word for it in their own language. ‘Nazarene’ is the revealed form of the hidden name.

Christ Has Everything

Christ has everything himself, whether human or angel or mystery, & the father.

Christ Arose, Then Dead

Those who say that the master first died & then arose are wrong, for he arose & then died. If someone is not first resurrected, would that person not die? As God lives, that one would die. (So I’m getting from this is that Jesus ‘arose’ (came) into this world then he died.)

The Precious in the Worthless

No one would hide something valuable & precious in a valuable container, but countless sums are commonly kept in a container worth only a cent. So it’s with the soul. It’s something precious, & it has come to be in a worthless body.

Naked & Not Naked

Some people are afraid that they may arise from the dead naked, & so they want to arise in flesh. They don’t know that it’s those who wear the flesh who are naked. Those who are able to take it off are not naked. “Flesh & blood will not inherit God’s kingdom.” What’s this flesh that will not inherit? It’s what we are wearing. And what’s this flesh that will inherit? It’s the flesh & blood of Jesus. For this reason he said, “One who doesn’t eat my flesh & drink my blood doesn’t have life within.” What does this mean? His flesh is the word & his blood is the Holy Spirit. Whoever has received these has food, drink, & clothing. And I also disagree with other who say that the flesh will not arise. Both views are wrong. You say that the flesh will not arise? Then tell me what will arise, so we may salute you. You say it’s the spirit in the flesh, & also the light in the word, & what you’re talking about is nothing other than flesh. It’s necessary to arise in this sort of flesh, since everything exists in it. In this world those who wear clothes are superior to the clothes. In heaven’s kingdom the clothes are superior to those who wear them.

Baptism & Anointing

By water & fire this whole realm is purified (this makes me think of the modern version of the apocalypse where people think that God will destroy the world by fire), the visible by the visible, the hidden by the hidden. Some things are hidden by the visible. There’s water within water, there’s fire within the oil of anointing.

This next section seems to get people all types of fired up.  I don’t want to spoil it for you. Enjoy friends!!!

Jesus Tricked Everyone

Jesus tricked everyone, for he didn’t appear as he was, but he appeared so that he could be seen. (Well, that’s kinda vain.) He appeared to everyone. (Not just to the Jews! He appeared to everyone! Jews, Gentiles, Buddists, Muslims. Everybody!) He appeared to the great as great, he appeared to the small as small, he appeared to the angels as an angel & to humans as a human. For this reason his word was hidden from everyone. Some looked at him & thought they saw themselves. But when he appeared to his disciples in glory upon the mountain, he wasn’t small. Or rather, he made the disciples great, so they could see him in his greatness.
